Movable chord shapes where one finger bars across all strings
A barre chord is a voicing in which one finger, usually the index, presses across several strings at a single fret while the other fingers form a chord shape above it. The barre acts as a movable nut: slide the whole shape along the neck and it produces a chord of the same type on a different root.
The CAGED system names its five major barre shapes after the open chords they come from.
