Root, minor 3rd, perfect 5th — the darker counterpart to major

Symbols: Cm · Cmin · C−

The minor triad is the root, minor 3rd, and perfect 5th — the darker counterpart to the major triad. It is the second most consonant chord, the minor 3rd also appearing early in the harmonic series.

Each major mode generates three minor triads. It contains the root & 5th and is contained by the minor pentatonic and the minor 7th tetrad.
