Melodies grow from one visible root; everything else is hidden

Only one root note is visible at a time, and every melody starts on it — all other notes are hidden, and the melody can sit anywhere around the anchor: above, below, or wrapped around it. The anchor relocates every so often, gradually covering the full range.
