Multiple notes sounding sequentially
A melody is a sequence of notes played one after another — the counterpart to harmony, where notes sound together. Melody and harmony are closely linked and are shaped around each other: the same melody can sound consonant or dissonant depending on the harmony beneath it. Every melody has a melodic contour.
